Confessions of a Real Bride: Christina Fahmawi
Christina and Bassil met in Dubai, at a group dinner which was organized by a mutual friend. The couple got married at King Hussein Club on May 24th, 2015 in Amman, Jordan.
Christina and Bassil shared their wedding planning experience with us, and here is what they had to say:
When was the wedding held and where?
The wedding was held on May 24th, 2015 in Amman, Jordan. We knew we wanted to have an outdoor wedding and decided on King Hussein Club after seeing many places. It was the perfect venue for us and the service team was so organized and classy in all aspects. The food was delicious and they kept the schedule of events moving along with our timetable and entertainment.
What is the biggest advice you can give any bride or groom-to-be?
Don't forget to add in those small touches that really personalize the wedding to YOU. It can be easy to get carried away with ideas you see from standard and other weddings but the memories are in the small details for sure.
Don't forget to add in those small touches that really personalize the wedding to YOU
I collected childhood photos of Bassil and I for a projector slideshow which played to music as guests arrived. The most precious details for me though were a personalized cake topper my mother brought from the US and a framed photo of my father and I at the guestbook table entrance.
What was the theme or color scheme you picked for your wedding?
The color scheme was white, gold and deep purple. Our focus was more on beautiful lighting since the wedding was at night and outdoors so we chose an illuminated dance floor and decorated with large lanterns for the entrance, table centerpieces and hanging from the gazebos. The lighting made all of the palm trees and courtyard's greenery appear tinted purple and it looked so beautiful! My bridal party wore different shades of purple dresses with white and purple rose bouquets.
Bassil and I live in Dubai, so planning the entire wedding from a distance was probably the most difficult
Do you recommend specific suppliers you worked with?
The most important thing to me was to have an amazing photographer to capture the whole day. I spent hours reviewing websites and social media pages of everyone in Jordan but once we found Mohammad Dawwas Photography page we knew he was the guy. He has a special eye for catching the perfect shot and his photos are stunning! We had so much fun with the photo shoots in different locations and couldn’t be happier with the photo memories he made for us.
What was the most difficult and stressful part of wedding planning?
Bassil and I live in Dubai, so planning the entire wedding from a distance was probably the most difficult. We made it all happen with amazing friends and family in Jordan who visited places for us, asked all of our questions and sent us pictures and videos.
We were stress free during the wedding and going on a 2-week honeymoon to Bali helped to completely relax afterwards.
Did you face any surprises?
Yes, two hours before the wedding our DJ showed up to say he was sick and going straight to the hospital. He brought another DJ to replace him who we had never met or heard of before. I was a little worried because we had already agreed the song list and all the music but thankfully the new DJ was just as amazing and he played great music, keeping everyone on the dance floor all night! We played a mix of English and Arabic music and had our first dance to "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake because it's 'our song'.
Did Arabia Weddings help you in your wedding planning?
Yes, when I first started planning I wasn't sure where to start but the Directory of Wedding Suppliers was helpful and led us to our wedding cake supplier, Friends Cake.
