About
Our Story so Far Invented by Thomas Lundgren and born in the United Arab Emirates, THE One Total Home Experience opened its first store in 1996 in Abu Dhabi. Today, having proven that things do grow in the desert, we have 22 stores across the Middle East in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). For a company that started off with only two employees, we have come a long way in 19 years, with a current staffcomplement of over 730. Our Concept Because we don’t believe the world needs another retailer, THE One aims to be both magical and meaningful: inspiring our customers with Affordable Luxury in Home Fashion, while engaging all our people in our Core Purpose of Changing the World Together. THE [magical] One We don’t sell products. We sell feelings. Because we believe that it’s not what you buy that’s important, it’s what you feel after you have bought it. So we see our stores as Theatres where we put on seasonal Home Fashion Shows featuring our latest Collections. In our effort to never become a soulless corporation, each Theatre (large store) and Boutique (smaller store) is freshly ‘handmade’ every day by our Cast members, creating a magical place where you can touch, see, smell, hear and taste THE One Total Home Experience; feel THE One’s soul. THE [meaningful] One There is no greater feeling in life, no greater freedom, than to know that you can be yourself and part of a group that is engaged in a cause that is greater than you are. The thing that matters is Meaning. We feel THE One has a higher purpose than merely selling stuff no one really needs; a social responsibility to try to improve the world we live in. So, apart from ethical sourcing, our way of making a difference is through hiring challenged individuals (at present we employ 20), contributing to a number of causes through local volunteering initiatives and our Big Idea: Global education through THE Onederworld - our Sustainable Village Community Programme, with current school-building projects in India. In addition to only dealing with manufacturers who sign a legal agreement confirming that they do not use child labour or wood from rainforests, we also work with the Rugmark Foundation –a private, non-profit organisation that not only ensures that each rug bearing its label has been woven without the use of child labour, but also supports the education and healthcare of children who have been taken out of the weaving industry. Other causes we currently support include Bahrain Bahrain Mobility International, The Palm Association and The Friendship Society for the Blind; Kuwait Central Blood Bank, RunQ8, K’s Path and Al Sidra Association for Psychological Care of Cancer Patients; Qatar Shafallah Centre for Children with Special Needs, Hamad Medical Corporation’s Rumaillah Rehabilitation Services and Pag-Iribang Bicolnon Qatar; UAE - Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Future Centre for Special Needs, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, Circle of Life Walk for Leukaemia and Terry Fox Run; UAE - Dubai Centre for Special Needs, Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, Al Wasl Hospital Blood Donation Centre, Dubai Cares Walk for Education, Education4All, Goumbook, Manzil and Special Needs Future Development CentreUAE - Ras Al Khaimah Ras Al Khaimah Animal Welfare Centre.
